Exchange programs, such as Interval International and RCI, are important to many timeshare owners.  By leveraging the thousands of timeshare developments that are members of these programs you can expand your timeshare use around the world.  Here are some guidelines for successful exchanges:

1.  Be flexible.  You increase your chances of a successful exchange by requesting 2-3 resorts and 2-3 different dates.

2.  Plan ahead.  Getting the date you want usually requires making reservations 12 months in advance.

3.  Be realistic.  Everyone wants to go to Maui for Spring Break.  You have a better chance of getting your request if you ask for dates and locations that are not in peak demand.

4.  Timeshare Resales trade the same as Developer’s units.  Most timeshares trade the same whether you pay retail or resale prices.  Ask our knowledgeable agents for details on the exchange program(s) for your timeshare.

One of the challenges for first time timeshare buyers is to find unbiased information about purchasing timeshares.  Timeshare owners may not be totally unbiased but they can be another useful source of information.
According to Timesharing Today, timeshare owners enjoy their timeshare vacations so much that 68% of them own more than one week.  The article goes on to state that most of those buyers of second and third weeks buy timeshare resales.
The lesson for first time buyers is, do not pay retail. When you purchase directly from the developer, in most cases, the cost of sales and marketing is over 40% of the purchase price.  Buy timeshare resales and save.
